Sophia Wilson, Tierna Davidson Make Their Returns For USA’s April Friendlies

The U.S. women’s national team is getting a big boost at its next training camp.

That’s because forward Sophia Wilson and center back Tierna Davidson are back in the team after long layoffs. Wilson returns from maternity leave after welcoming a baby girl last year (this will be her first appearance for the national team in 15 months), while Davidson has recovered from an ACL injury suffered at the beginning of the 2025 NWSL season.

Wilson and Davidson, who were part of the squad that won gold at the 2024 Olympics, are among the group of 26 players that manager Emma Hayes has called up for a training camp that includes three matches against Japan in San Jose (April 11), Seattle (April 14) and Denver (April 17).

The U.S. also welcomes back goalkeeper Jane Campbell and forward Michelle Cooper for the first time this calendar year.

“As our team continues to evolve, it will be great to welcome back Sophia and Tierna, who are not only great players but also contribute positively to our team environment,” Hayes said in a statement.

“Japan is undoubtedly one of the top teams in the world, and they are performing at a very high level coming off their Asian Cup title, which was impressive to watch. Playing the same country three times in a row, and especially a team that is as dedicated to their style as Japan, will be a massive test for our team and I’m looking forward to seeing how our team handles the numerous challenges these games will present.”

Japan recently won the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Australia where it outscored opponents 29-1 and beat the Matildas in the final on their home turf. Hayes has been anxious for the U.S. to get another crack at Japan after losing to the Nadeshiko in the 2025 SheBelieves Cup final last February.

This is the second consecutive roster where Hayes has not called in any uncapped players. As promised, she is focusing on her core group of players with World Cup qualifying on the schedule for later this year. The average caps per player entering this window is 37.4, which is higher than most recent rosters. The number reflects the addition of Wilson and Davidson, but is also proof of how Hayes’ roster is becoming more experienced.
